Arsenal got their revenge on Troy Deeney on Sunday.
The Watford forward famously criticised Arsenal’s lack of “cojones” following the Hornets’ win in the fixture at Vicarage Road earlier in the season.
And Arsenal’s players, manager and fans hadn’t forgotten prior to kick-off…
Everything was set up for the narrative to continue, but few predicted that it would involve a Petr Cech penalty save.
The stopper saved his first ever penalty in an Arsenal jersey to deny Deeney and keep the Gunners two goals to the good in what turned out to be a routine victory for the north London side.
And social media’s response to Deeney was as ruthless as it was predictable.
At this point we’ll gloss over the fact that Deeney only said what half the Arsenal fans have also been saying… presumably the same half who opted not to attend a sparsely populated Emirates Stadium on Sunday.
