It was some December for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola. So good was it, in fact, that the City boss has scooped the Manager of the Month award and in doing so has become the first manager in Premier League history to win it four times in a row.
Understandably, that has some fans waxing lyrical about the Spaniard.
And rather predictably, the green-eyed monster has reared it’s ugly head in the red parts of Manchester.
But it’s not just United fans who are unhappy that Guardiola collected the gong once again.
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson was also in contention. The former England boss has transformed the club since he replaced Frank de Boer. Palace were winless, pointless and goalless before Hodgson joined, and now they lie in 14th with 22 points from 22 games. Remarkable.
And they lost just once in December – to Arsenal, in what was a thrilling encounter.
Burnley boss Sean Dyche was also a contender for December’s award. The Clarets are just seven points off the top four.
But, crucially, football is a numbers game. And the numbers don’t lie…
