Gianluigi Buffon managed to surprise just about everyone by announcing at a big media conference that he will leave Juventus – but not retire.

The legendary goalkeeper had been expected to hang up his gloves entirely at the presser, but instead merely confirmed that his final Juve game would be against Verona in Serie A on Saturday.

“Up to 15 days ago my retirement seemed obvious, but some days ago I received some interesting offers in and out of the pitch and the most important of this second group was made by President Agnelli.

“On Saturday, I will play the last game with Juventus, then I will take two or three days to think calmly, but I am sure I’ll decide according to the will that my heart is screaming.”

Intriguing.

It did not take long at all for fans of seemingly every English club to excitedly take to social media at the idea of Buffon making a shock switch.
