After a sensational group stage of the 2018 World Cup, hopes were high for the knockouts as they started on Saturday. And it took only 10 minutes for France v Argentina to explode into life thanks to teenage superstar Kylian Mbappe.

Many predicted Mbappe would cause problems for an ageing Argentina team with a creaking defence – and so it proved as he unleashed his savage pace with a run from inside his own half which took him into the penalty area.

Marcos Rojo brought him down with a brainless challenge and Antoine Griezmann dispatched the penalty, but there was no question who was really behind the goal.

And everyone had the same thought on the 20th anniversary of Michael Owen’s sensational goal against Argentina.
