Renato Sanches’ move to Swansea City was one of the shock signings of the summer.

But the young Portuguese international’s Swansea debut didn’t exactly go to plan.

The 20-year-old started in midfield but struggled to impose himself on the game and was withdrawn after 69 minutes. And the Swans went on to lose 1-0 against visitors Newcastle.

The much-hyped Sanches had a difficult season at Bayern last time out, hence his loan move to south Wales. And it was hoped that a move to the Premier League might be what he needed to rejuvenate his fledgling career.

But the immediate impression, according to many fans on twitter, wasn’t good.

But it does seem slightly harsh to judge a player on 69 minutes…

Particularly when he’s got as much natural talent as Sanches.

And, as one fan pointed out, it’s not as if Sanches is going to be fully fit and up to speed with his new team in any case.

Patience people. Patience.
