Manchester United fans are delighted with their draw for the Europa League quarter-finals.
The Premier League giants are the biggest name left in the competition and have avoided dangerous opponents Besiktas and Lyon, with Belgian club Anderlecht coming up in the last eight.
And the general reaction from fans on social media has been a positive one:
There weren’t many who disagreed that United have got a good draw, but Anderlecht are no push-overs and one fan had a word of warning for his followers.
But much of the talk after the draw wasn’t about the game itself but the prospect of watching Youri Tielemans – the Anderlecht midfielder who has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford after a sensational season.
The 19-year-old made his breakthrough as a holding midfielder, but has scored goals for fun after being moved into a more advanced role, earning him a comparison with Frank Lampard (mainly just because he’s scored from distance, that’s largely where the similarities end).
The two Manchester clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have already been linked with moves for the youngster, but that attention is likely to only increase with two legs on television against a club of United’s calibre.
Where United bid for Tielemans or not, will the fans live to regret their overconfidence? Time will tell.
