Paul Pogba turned in a very underwhelming performance as Manchester United slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Chelsea in their FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge on Monday evening.

The Frenchman was comprehensively outshone by compatriot N’Golo Kante, so it then came as quite the shock to everyone when Jose Mourinho proclaimed the following about his world-record signing in his post-match interview:

“We have to be positive, the players were phenomenal but Pogba was by far the best player on the pitch.

“He was a giant on the pitch. After him, all my other boys were fantastic.

“The specialists will say a lot about him and it comes from envy.”

Many fans did not agree with Mourinho’s assessment in the slightest…

There were a few who stuck up for poor Pogba, however…

One thing was clear regardless of Pogba’s performance: Kante was clearly the best player on the pitch.
