When the moment came, he delivered.

Lionel Messi’s leap was legendary. As was his iconic clutch on the shoulder of Marcos Rojo – the Argentina and Manchester United defender who had just volleyed home a stunning winner to beat Nigeria and save his nation’s World Cup.

It was an exquisite strike by Rojo, but this is football and it didn’t take long for the jokes to fly in…

Some tried in vain to keep the conversation about football and the incredible technique of the goal, with Asif rightly pointing out that the goal looked more like a bit of Aguero skill…

And according to journalist Rory Smith, the celebrations went on long after the final whistle…

But not everybody was happy…

And of course some weren’t willing to let the moment exist on its own and tried desperately to claw it back to club football.

Give it a rest lads. For one month, please.
