It had to happen. After Sadio Mane was controversially sent off for a clumsy challenge on Ederson as Manchester City hammered Liverpool 5-0 on Saturday, there was bound to be a similar incident that went unpunished soon after.

That moment duly arrived on Monday as West Ham faced Huddersfield. Winston Reid caught Steve Mounie in the face but was not booked.

Cue confusion on Twitter and an amused reaction from Gary Neville.

The former Manchester United full-back, who believed that Mane should not have been sent off and that referee Jon Moss had ‘ruined the game’, drew attention to the inconsistencies with two tweets:

 

Liverpool fans were not impressed though. Obviously.
