Francesco Totti bade an emotional farewell to Roma on Sunday evening, bringing the curtain down on an unrivalled 25-year stint at the club.

The Italian made his final appearance during the dramatic 3-2 win over Genoa in Serie A – which secured Roma’s passage into the Champions League group stages – but it was after the final whistle that the party started.

Totti was paraded around the stadium to an adoring fan base, with many of his team-mates moved to tears.

The most pertinent moment arrived when the 40-year-old handed over the captain’s armband to Mattia Almaviva, the youngest captain in Roma’s youth system.
