Panama are going to a World Cup for the very first time.

Tuesday night’s stunning victory over Costa Rica saw Panama jump into the third qualification spot ahead of Honduras and major casualties USA.

And the result was greeted with a level of jubilation that defies those who say international football has lost its allure.

First came the dramatic full-time celebrations:

But the party didn’t stop there, with fans spilling on to the streets to continue the festivities in style.

And then, just hours after the game, the team took a bus tour around the city to extend the celebrations well into the night… not that anyone was considering going to bed anyway!

It was a party to end all parties, and thankfully the government extended it for another day by announcing a national holiday in honour of the team’s achievements.

There’s nothing quite like football.
