Hard pitches, strong winds and heavy rain are all common causes for matches to be called off, but in Iceland it takes a lot, lot more.
A match between Breidablik and Fram had to be abandoned due to ‘extreme weather’, and when they say extreme weather, they really do mean it.
Astonishingly, the referee allowed the match to go on for 70 minutes with Breidablik leading 1-0 before it was finally – and mercifully – brought to an abrupt end.
The Football Association of Iceland refused to relocate the match to an indoor venue, and it’s quite unbelievable given the conditions.
We’re just incredibly relieved we don’t have to work in such weather!
