So far VAR has not exactly been a resounding success.

It was a bit of a shambles in the Confederations Cup and whilst it’s gotten off to a good start in MLS there are still concerns over how long it takes.

Those concerns may have been reassured a little on Friday evening in the opening Bundesliga match of the season.

Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski was incensed when he wasn’t awarded a penalty for a tug in the box against Bayer Leverkusen and upon quick consultation with the VAR the decision was over-turned.

It brought minimal disruption to the game and resulted in the correct decision, with Lewandowski scoring the penalty.
